Walmart is very protective of its supply chain information. So until last year NPD extrapolated US sales based on the firms they did measure (ie...the NPD number is not just the sales they directly measure but includes their guess of the whole market).
That said, NPD struck a deal with Walmart last year to supply Walmart with their supply line data in personal electronics and entertainment (see NPD's website) so NPD still extrapolates the whole country but does now include real ...

Second....NPD extrapolates sales from their POS to all retailers...so yes...its is an estimate but one that firms pay thousands of dollars for...it must be somewhat reflective of the market.
Third...Media Create does just as much extrapolation so you are still comparing apples to apples.

but yes...in general it is an estimate but does include real POS numbers for a good chunk of the market....but it is one that firms and companies pay huge money for so i tend to believe there is some merit to NPD's methodology.

Although I think the Ratchet games look great in HD, Insomniac has said that the graphics are simplified to some extent in order to get that silky smooth 60fps action.

The issue to me is he poor precedent it sets for the consumer and their right to maintain access to the services they believe they are paying for. An unfortunate truth is that a very low percentage of console owners are going to seek out and understand the TOS before hand.
